The 2023 WGA Strike is in full swing, and the number of shows impacted by the writer's strike keeps rising. The inability of the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) to reach an amenable resolution to negotiations has significantly impacted the world of entertainment, especially when it comes to TV. The 2023 WGA Writers Strike hit late-night daily broadcasts first, but it has also disrupted the production of several streaming series after failing to meet the demands of WGA . With writers from coast-to-coast picketing, the 2023 writer's strike is the biggest walkout in 15 years, with no clear end in sight. Every show affected by the WGA strike now includes many tentpole franchises for studios and platforms like Disney, Netflix, Amazon, and more — yet an agreement still doesn't feel within reach.

There are multiple reasons why every show delayed by the 2023 writer's strike has halted production. Common contractual disputes include wanting a model similar to broadcast television's viewership-based residual payments, as well as higher salaries, and tighter regulations on AI for scriptwriting is the hope of the WGA. However, one of the biggest sticking points is a proposal requiring studios and companies to staff their series with a certain number of writers during production and post-production. While some series like House of the Dragon have completed scripts, the AMPTP's failure to meet the WGA's demands for financial compensation and job security has an immediate impact on the current seasons of other scripted series.
