Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel's What If…?
Marvel's Captain Marvel (Alexandra Daniels) and Frigga (Josette Eales) meddled just in time.
The fresh episode brought a lot of familiar faces back into the MCU — albeit in animated form. Aside from the Asgardians, Thor's parties around the world featured Nebula, the Grandmaster, Drax, Rocket, Frost Giant Loki, Surtur, and even some Skrulls, among others. Their antics became so chaotic that acting SHIELD director Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) almost launched a nuke just to pacify that God of Thunder and stop him from further damaging Earth. As with other What If...? offerings, this one featured a lot of callbacks and Easter eggs from the Sacred Timeline, including a particular one from Kenneth Branagh's Thor.
Amidst the slew of references in the aforementioned episode, perhaps the sighting of the Avengers: Age of Ultron post-credits scene revealed the Mad Titan putting on the gauntlet, despite not having any access to the Allfather's trove.
Subsequently, Infinity Gauntlet in Odin's trove is also a replica like in the main reality.
Marvel Studios prides itself on its interconnected storytelling that has been going on for more than a decade now. While it seems like it was all seamlessly planned, the MCU also has several continuity issues plaguing it. Thankfully, Kevin Feige and his team seem able to provide simple solutions to these plot holes, as evidenced by the Infinity Gauntlet snafu.
Marvel's What If...? airs every Wednesday on Disney+.
