Warning! This article contains spoilers for Silo season 2.

Apple TV+ sci-fi show introduces many massive changes to its source material in season 2. It only makes many insignificant book characters, like Judge Meadows, more important in the overarching storyline but also introduces some of its original elements.

Although Apple TV+'s Silo has not yet explored the history of the titular structures and the reason why they were built, it paves the way for a compelling origin story by featuring a flashback in season 2's ending moments. After adding two new characters to Silo's roster, the flashback surprisingly features the duck Pez dispenser from Silo season 1. Since the relic did not seem too significant in season 1's story, its involvement in season 2's flashback is intriguing for more reasons than one.

The Pez Dispenser Is An Important Relic In Silo 18

It Was First Shown In Silo Season 1

The Pez dispenser relic in Silo

In Silo season 1, George Wilkins owned the duck Pez dispenser before he gave it to Juliette with a message that claimed he found what he was looking for in Silo 18's bottom level. Much later in the same season, Juliette cleverly planted the Pez dispenser in Douglas Trumbull's apartment, allowing her to start a relics investigation in his home. While conducting the investigation, Juliette hoped to find the truth about George Wilkins' death as she refused to believe he died by suicide.

After being a notable presence Silo season 1, George Wilkins' role in the story of Apple TV+'s dystopian sci-fi changes a lot in later installments.

The Pez dispenser is a harmless object but is seemingly filed as a banned relic in Judicial's records. The records also confirm it is owned by George Wilkins, which prompts Sims to confront Juliette in Silo season 1. Since Bernard was pretending to be at Juliette's side in Silo season 1's early moments, he s Julliete, claiming that Trumbull might have picked up the relic from Geogre Wilkins' home during an official search. Beyond these story beats, the Pez dispenser does not seem too important, but Silo season 2 confirms there is more to it than meets the eye.

The Congressman Gifts It To Helen

Silo season 2's ending features a flashback in which a Congressman meets a reporter named Helen. The Congressman only agrees to meet her at a pub because he believes it is a date. However, to his surprise, Helen questions him about a geopolitical event, asking him if the United States plans to retaliate against Iran after a recent "dirty bomb" attack. She even seems to doubt whether the reports of the radiological attack on the United States are true or point to something more twisted.

Instead of answering her questions, the Congressman decides to leave. However, before he walks away, he gives her a gift, claiming he impulsively bought it from a gift store. When Helen opens the packaging, she finds the same duck Pez dispenser from Silo season 1, which seemingly serves as a nod to the University of Oregon's Duck mascot. The Congressman buys it for her as a sweet gesture because she studied journalism at the University of Oregon, but the show's storyline suggests its significance is even deeper.

How Silo Season 2's Pez Dispenser Reveal Ties Back To The Sims Family & The Flamekeepers

Its Origin Reveals Why It Is Considered A Red Relic

Robert Sims and Camille Sims looking at Bernard in their kitchen in Silo season 2's episode 5

Bernard reveals the silos were built 352 years ago, suggesting the flashback unfolds over three centuries before the show's present timeline. Still, the Pez dispenser somehow stands the test of time and even ends up in Sims' hands. In Silo season 2's episode 7, Sims gives it to his son, hinting that the Sims family will determine Silo 18's future. Although Silo season 2 does not reveal much about Helen, it is hard not to believe she was among Silo 18's first generation of citizens.

The Pez dispenser is also likely banned because it is associated with the rebellious group of women from Silo 18's past.

She likely ed the Pez dispenser to the next generation as a symbol of hope before it reached George Wilkins. George Wilkins' Silo season 1 story reveals he comes from a family of Flamekeepers, a group of women who were deadset on fighting against the silos' oppressive system. This could mean that Helen, too, was among the first few Flamekeepers, who questioned the silos' authority, just like she confronted the Congressman in the flashback. The Pez dispenser is also likely banned because it is associated with the rebellious group of women from Silo 18's past.

Silo season 2 roughly ends where the first Silo book, Wool, closes its final arc.

Since Camille Sims seemingly gets appointed as Silo 18's new head after Bernard backs off, it seems strange that a symbol of rebellion and hope ends up in her family in Silo season 2. This could either mean that Camille's rise to power will eventually benefit Silo 18's citizens and help them achieve freedom, or it will mark the end of the rebellion that stayed strong one generation after another.
