Snap Inc., in its latest Snap Partner Summit, announced My AI for all Snapchatters across the globe. Earlier, Snapchat's AI-enabled chatbot was only available for Snapchat+ subscribers. For those catching up, Snapchat+ is the paid version of the photo- and video-sharing app that provides exclusive features to s in exchange for a $3.99 monthly fee. The features include a custom app icon, #1 Best Friend, Story Rewatch Count, profile backgrounds, and more.
Those concerned about privacy should know that Snapchat doesn't store their conversation with My AI, just like any other chat on the app. On the page, Snapchat mentions that My AI is there to help s connect with the people and things they care about. Further, the social platform also clarifies that its AI chatbot is based on OpenAI's ChatGPT technology, with additional safety guidelines specific to Snapchat. With that out of the way, let's dive into a few things s can do with Snapchat's My AI.
5 Customize Avatar
Snapchat promotes My AI as s' individual chatbot, and hence, allows them to personalize it just like their Bitmoji. To change My AI's Bitmoji appearance, s should tap on its avatar and then hit 'Customize.' s can select the skin tone, hair color, face shape, and other appearance attributes on the next screen. Further, s can even choose their chatbot's outfit from many options. What's worth mentioning is that the platform has put a lot of thought into the chatbot's appearance, ensuring that s don't confuse it with someone else from their friends.
4 Play Text-Based Games Like Trivia
My AI appears at the top of the chat section on Snapchat. s can interact with the chatbot like they are talking to a friend, and it replies constantly. On sending the chatbot "Hey," it responds with "Hey! How's it going," and tries to start a fun conversation. The friendly tone is also visible in other responses. Interestingly, s can even play trivia games with the chatbot, like 20 questions. Screen Rant started playing the game with the chatbot, and it made the game sound fun. However, during the game, the chatbot lost track of things for some reason, and it had to be reminded.
3 Include My AI In Conversations With A Friend
Snapchat now allows s to use My AI in conversations with friends. A press release states that s can "simply @ mention My AI" in a one-to-one or group chat. Once s do that, the chatbot enters a chat and answers any questions s might have. For instance, one can ask it to clear a debate around Hollywood stars, fun places to visit, or things to try on a weekend. In a way, My AI eliminates the need to leave a chat in the middle of a conversation to look for something on Google. The messages sent by the chatbot are marked differently than regular chats.
2 Get Suggestions For Local Activities Or Lenses
s can ask My AI for suggestions regarding local activities. Using Snap Map, the chatbot comes up with place recommendations. Generally, Snap Map shows the hotspots that other Snapchatters visit quite often; hence there is a good chance that the place recommendations could be based on this data. In addition, s can even ask My AI for suggestions related to Snapchat Lenses, such as a lens to wish someone on their birthday or a lens that makes the look like an alien.
1 Ask For Jokes Or To Suggest Dinner Ideas
Among other things, Snapchatters can ask My AI to tell them jokes, talk about topics at length, suggest dinner ideas, help with homework, provide weather updates, fitness tips, and more. One thing that Screen Rant noticed is that My AI cannot provide news headlines, although it is something that it claims it can do upon asking. Nonetheless, another exciting thing that s can do is send photo/video Snaps to My AI and receive a chat reply about it.
In the coming days, My AI will also be able to create unique generative Snaps, but this feature will be reserved for Snapchat+ subscribers. It's interesting what Snapchat s can do with My AI, and there's no doubt that it is a fun addition to the app. However, whether regular s who use the app to stay connected with their friends or family will like talking to an AI-enabled chatbot is yet to be found out.
