Perrin's new "Two Rivers" nickname in Wheel of Time characters, there are clues to be found regarding where they'll be headed next.

In the case of Rand, for instance, it's all but confirmed he and several of his allies will be on their way to the Aiel Waste. The Wheel of Time season 3 is adapting The Shadow Rising, which takes him to the homeland of his ancestors on his father's side. Season 2 laid the groundwork for the Aiel Waste to be a major setting by having Aviendha correctly identify Rand as the Car'a'carn. This paved the way for him to accompany her group into the desert. Many characters will surely follow, as they did in the book. Perrin, on the other hand, looks to have other plans.

Perrin's Nickname Sets Up His Return To Two Rivers

Perrin and Bain in Wheel of Time season 2

In The Shadow Rising, Perrin returns to the Two Rivers. Perrin hasn't expressed an intention to go home yet, but the character eventually making that decision was cleverly foreshadowed by Dain Bornhald constantly calling him "Two Rivers." Upon meeting Perrin and learning where he's from, Dain assigned him that nickname. He was also shown shouting it after he watched Perrin kill his father, Geofram Bornhald, in The Wheel of Time season 2 finale. Dain's chosen nickname for Perrin, and the show's use of it in this scene in particular, comes across as the show's way of reminding viewers that Dain knows the place Perrin calls home.

Having seen Perrin cut down his father, Dain now has a reason to seek revenge. In the books, Dain wrongly believed that Perrin had killed him, which led him to go with the Whitecloaks to Two Rivers, where he sought to flush Perrin out. The plan worked, as it did indeed bring Perrin back home. As a result of the Whitecloaks' activities in the village, the Two Rivers served as the primary setting for Perrin's arc in The Shadow Rising. That, combined with what Dain knows about Perrin, makes it all the more likely that Two Rivers is where Perrin will go when The Wheel of Time returns.

What Perrin Vs. Dain Bornhald Means For Wheel Of Time Season 3

Perrin stands alone in The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 3.

Dain Bornhald's newfound hatred for Perrin says a lot about what to expect from Perrin's next adventure in The Wheel of Time season 3. In the book, the Whitecloaks were intent on rooting out Darkfriends and resorted to dubious methods to get what they wanted. They also listened to Padan Fain, who naturally only made things even more challenging for Perrin. The Whitecloaks persecuted the people of Two Rivers, with many of them emerging as allies to Perrin in The Wheel of Time season 3. Both Tam al'Thor and Abel Cauthon - the fathers of Rand and Mat respectively - played roles in Perrin's fight against the Whitecloaks.

Even when the Trollocs emerged as a mutual enemy to both sides, Dain's animosity towards Perrin remained a major obstacle for the characters. Dain struggled to look past what he had been told about Perrin killing Geofram and was insistent that his father's supposed killer face punishment for his actions. The bigger problem facing Perrin in The Wheel of Time season 3 is that in the TV show, Dain won't be wrong in his accusations about Geofram and in turn, may be even harder to talk down than his book counterpart. Based on the beef the show has created for the two characters, Dain's issues with Perrin will be a major focal point for much of season 3.

The Wheel Of Time Season 2 Already Set Up Dain Bornhald's Redemption

Dain Bornhald talking in The Wheel of Time.

Interestingly, The Wheel of Time has already built the foundation for Dain Bornhald's crusade to end - or at least, get put on hold. Dain giving Aviendha water, his friendly attitude toward Perrin before Geofram's death, and desire to defend the people of Falme showcase his capacity for comion. In other words, the show has already proven that in spite of his loyalty to a bigoted force in The Wheel of Time's world, Dain has redeemable qualities. In the book, Dain did have reservations with the Whitecloaks' treatment of the Two Rivers folk and ultimately did help them fight the Trollocs.

What The Wheel of Time has revealed about Dain as a person increases the chances of him eventually electing to do the right thing. Whether that means he'll either forgive Perrin, though, is another matter. Dain seemed to get over his problem with Perrin in the 13th book, Towers of Midnight, but that was mostly because he came to accept Perrin's innocence. As for the TV character, though, there will be no denying that Perrin killed Geofram, and Perrin's reason for the killing - avenging the death of his wolf companion Hopper - is unlikely to alleviate Dain's anger.
