The Wheel of Time season 1's Loial twist is likely to drastically change the lovable Ogier's season 2 arc. The Wheel of Time, adapted from the novel series of the same name, has already had to make some major book changes for its adaptation. The book series contains 14 novels, so it makes sense that heavy changes are needed for the television adaptation, but some of those changes have proved divisive within the fandom.

Loial's arc has undergone relatively few changes up to this point, but it seems poised to change dramatically after he was stabbed at the end of Wheel of Time season 1. The only major differences between Loial's Wheel of Time season 1 arc and his book arc are that he did not meet Rand in Caemlyn (Caemlyn is left out of season 1 entirely), and he did not accompany Rand and Moiraine into the blight. Beyond that Loial plays a relatively similar role to the one he plays in the books, but The Wheel of Time season 2 is about to change that.

Loial May Not Look For The Horn Of Valere In Wheel Of Time Season 2

In the books, Loial accompanies Rand and the others as they chase down Padan Fain and the Horn of Valere, however, after being stabbed by the cursed dagger from Shadar Logoth in The Wheel of Time season 1, he will need to be taken to Tar Valon to be Healed by Aes Sedai. That means he is more than likely to miss out on the chase for the Horn of Valere. While it's possible that he's healed by Aes Sedai somewhere else, it seems highly unlikely that the number of Aes Sedai needed to Heal such a wound would be gathered in one place outside of Tar Valon.

If Loial does end up going to Tar Valon for Healing, he will probably become part of Egwene and Nynaeve's arc. This constitutes a pretty big deviation from the source material, as Loial spends the vast majority of his time in the books with Rand, Mat, and Perrin. He is writing a book about the Dragon Reborn after all. However, Loial need not be a part of the Aes Sedai's arc for the entire series. He will likely Egwene and Nynaeve's story for a season or so before realigning with his book arc at either Falme or the Stone of Tear.

Wheel Of Time Has Complicated Its Horn Of Valere Setup

Loial's removal from the chase for the Horn of Valere further complicates The Wheel of Time's setup for this critical story. With Mat alone in Tar Valon, Loial suffering from a grievous injury, and Rand wandering through the Blight alone, only Perrin is left to chase after the Horn. Mat's apparent removal from the hunt is the most jarring because he is the one who ultimately blows it. That means this storyline could be shifting to Perrin, who seems to be the only one available to track down the Horn.

Related: How Wheel of Time Is Already Changing The Horn of Valere StoryIt's still possible that The Wheel of Time season 2 reintegrates some of these characters for the hunt, but it is looking increasingly unlikely. Unless Perrin stops for a layover in Tar Valon to pick up Mat and possibly Loial, he will be the sole main character involved in the hunt for the Horn. These changes are certainly workable for The Wheel of Time season 2, but the setup has become strangely complicated.
