Disney is known for its iconic Princesses, often creating a new one every few years. They have been entertaining audiences of all ages since 1937 with their stories of faraway Princesses, and they all have strong, distinct personalities. From Mulan's strong moral com to Cinderella's desire for peace, each Princess is unique.
The Enneagram Types are a great way to explain all these personalities. The Enneagram is made of nine different types that explain people's motivations and relationships. It is less about outward personality and more about what makes someone tick. Matching the Disney Princesses with these types can make the movies even more enjoyable!
Type 1 - Moana
Type 1's are known as The Reformers. Their basic need is to improve the world around them for others and themselves. They are motivated by integrity and their strong ethical beliefs. When 1's are at their worst, they are at the mercy of their Inner Critic that constantly puts them down.
Moana is a Type 1 because of her need to improve her village. She wants nothing more than to go beyond the reef because she believes it will make life better for everyone. When Moana's actions cause Maui's hook to crack, her Inner Critic tells her she was never meant to save Te Fiti. She soon finds it within her to try again and saves her home and Te Fiti.
Type 2 - Anna
Type 2's are The Helpers of the Enneagram. The basic need of a 2 is to be needed and they often fear isolation, but they are approachable and friendly. They are always ready to help those and are usually very good at anticipating others' needs.
This is the perfect type for Anna from Frozen. After the incident with Elsa's power, Anna becomes just as isolated as her sister, and so she just wants to be needed. Anna is also one of the friendliest Disney Princesses. She befriends Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf on her way to help Elsa. Although she hasn't spent much time with Elsa, she is excellent at understanding what she needs and helping her get it.
Type 3 - Tiana
Type 3's are The Achievers. They want to feel valued and seen as successful. They are very afraid of failure and so often struggle with becoming workaholics. However, they are also very resourceful and ambitious, as well as capable in most situations.
There is no better Princess for Type 3 than Tiana. and one of the best Disney Princess quotes). After being turned into a frog, Tiana proves herself to be very resourceful when she makes Naveen a 5-star meal in the bayou. Tiana eventually learns she can achieve her dreams without working herself into the ground. Instead, she learns to have fun and love her life with Naveen.
Type 4 - Belle
Type 4's are known as The Individualists. Their core need is to be unique and fully understand themselves. 4's are motivated by their desire to be special and express themselves to the world. They are often burdened with feeling more broken than those around them.
Belle is most definitely a Type 4. 4's are often very creative which manifests in Belle as her being a bookworm. She knows all the other townspeople view her and her father as outsiders, and so she often feels as though something must be wrong with her. Belle likes being herself and has no problem talking about her books to the townspeople, even though they find it odd. She just wants to find somewhere, and someone, who will love her and understand her as she is. It's these qualities that make Belle one of the most liked Princesses.
Type 5 - Pocahontas
Type 5's are The Investigators of the Enneagram. 5's like to understand and comprehend the world around them. They are motivated by the need to be independent and explore their reality. They tend to be very insightful learners, as well as perceptive
Although the Pocahtonas movie is filled with historical inaccuracies, Pocahontas herself is made into a strong Type 5. Her drive to understand the world around her is what makes her so. She goes to Grandma Willow with questions so she can have an even deeper understanding of the world. She is constantly going on adventures in the forest to keep discovering the world around her in new and interesting ways.
Type 6 - Elsa
Type 6's are called The Loyalists. Their deepest desires are to have security, guidance, and the of those around them. They are very reliable and great problem-solvers. However, they often put pressure on themselves to fix things, which can lead to anxiety and self-doubt.
Elsa shines as a 6, especially in Frozen II. Elsa finally has the of Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf. When the spirits begin acting up, Elsa immediately wants to solve the problem, but she does not want to lose her system. Elsa puts so much pressure on herself to save Arendelle that she ends up "drowning" in Ahtohallan. However, Elsa proves how reliable she is when she is able to come back from Ahtohallan and save Arendelle.
Type 7 - Ariel
Type 7's are known as The Enthusiasts. They simply desire to have new, fun experiences and their needs met. They really want to be content in life. They are optimistic and spontaneous, but they also struggle with impulsiveness. However, Type 7's do whatever they can to avoid pain and negative emotions.
Ariel is a Type 7 due to her optimistic nature about humans. She collects human things, despite her father's wishes, because she finds them fun and interesting. She avoids her father because she does not like fighting with him. When a fight does happen, Ariel is crushed. This then starts her journey to find Prince Eric, which is incredibly spontaneous and optimistic.
Type 8 - Jasmine
Type 8's are The Challengers. 8's want to be in charge of their own lives and protect themselves from being harmed or controlled by others. They are powerful and confident but can be aggressive, and they often use the power they have over their own lives to help those around them.
Jasmine is an independent Princess who fits Type 8 perfectly. She refuses to be married off by her father because she wants to be able to control who she spends the rest of her life with. When she first meets Aladdin as Prince Ali, she is cold towards him because she is trying to protect her heart, and it isn't exactly a typically romantic Disney meet-cute, although Ali is smitten with her right away. Once the two of them defeat Jafar, Jasmine, along with her father, is even able to change the law, asserting her independence once again.
Type 9 - Cinderella
Type 9's are The Peacemakers. They desire peace in every aspect of their lives and fear loss and separation. They are easy-going and open-minded, but can often follow the will of those around them if it means keeping the peace. However, they also have a secret side to them that can be quite fiery.
Cinderella is a Type 9. After losing her father, she just wants to live in peace with her step-family. Despite the awful way Lady Tremaine and her daughters treat her, she never fights them because it would disrupt the tenuous peace they have. However, Cinderella's fiery side shines through when it comes to trying on the glass slipper because living with the Prince would bring her the more lasting peace she desires.
