Warning: Major spoilers ahead for the season finale of MobLandThe season finale of a meeting with Jaime Lopez for Conrad.
However, what started as an amicable conversation turned on a dime, as Kat revealed that the favor she wanted from Conrad was his insight and help in wiping out the Harrigans so she could take over the London gun and drug trade that their organization handles. Despite recognizing how powerful Kat McAllister is, Harry turned her down flatly out of his allegiance to the Harrigans in general, but largely to his best friend, Kevin. At that point, Harry's life and the lives of his wife and daughter likely became forfeit, begging the question of why Harry would rudely refuse Kat.

Why Conrad Is Being Cheered In Prison In MobLand Season 1, Episode 10 & How It Connects To A 56-Year-Old Classic
Pierce Brosnan's volatile gangster Conrad Harrigan was a highlight of MobLand season 1, and the last scene features Conrad at his most entertaining.
Harry's Loyalty To The Harrigans Defines Him
Loyalty Is Behind Every Decision He Makes
It’s extremely difficult to watch the first season of MobLand and come to the conclusion that Harry Da Souza is a “good” guy. He may not be as vicious or hateful as the people he takes orders from, but given that he executes their will, there isn’t much of a difference. It’s perhaps more accurate to say that Harry is not a good guy but a “principled” guy; at the very least, he has a code that dictates his decision-making, and he’s steadfast in his commitment. In reality, that code is all he has, which makes him unique in the world of MobLand.

Harry’s loyalty to the Harrigans is one of the only choices that he still gets to make in his life. He could put his deadly skills to use for several parties, but the fact that he chooses to remain at his best friend’s side (and commit whatever violence is necessary to protect Kevin, his family, and the rest of the Harrigans) is at least irable. If he was willing to change loyalties on a whim, there wouldn’t be much left of his character. He’d be nothing more than a tool for hire, no different from the gun he fires.
Harry Would Be Damned Either Way
Either Kat Or The Harrigans Would Come For His Family
Harry’s refusal of Kat’s demands and remaining loyal to the Harrigans may be irable, but it’s also not much of a choice. If he betrays the Harrigans and helps Kat, he and his family would be targeted by any surviving of the Harrigans’ inner circle. Conrad has said as much, and given how malevolent and borderline psychotic he and Maeve are at this point, it’s a sure bet that vengeance would swiftly become their number one priority if they lose the gun and drug operation but somehow survive.
It’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenario for Harry, and in a certain light one might argue that it’d be smarter to betray the Harrigans. Harry knows the Harrigans’ operation and major players inside and out, and their influence pales in comparison to Kat’s power. The smarter play would be to take his chances with the unstable Harrigans rather than the international crime lord Kat McAllister. That makes his decision to remain loyal all the more irable yet still foolhardy, given that he seems to be taking significantly worse odds at survival for his family.
Is Kat Going To Be MobLand Season 2's Villain?
She Seems Like The Most Obvious (And Most Dangerous) Threat
With the Stevensons eliminated and the Harrigans appearing firmly in control of the London criminal underworld at the end of season 1, it seems as though there is nowhere to go but up and out. Season 2 should take the show international, given that the Harrigans are currently in bed with Jaime Lopez’s Mexican cartel, and now Harry has offended the ultra-powerful Kat McAllister. It’s possible that Kat’s influence over Jaime Lopez could persuade him to turn on the Harrigans and act as the season 2 villain, and keep Kat biding her time.
The actress behind Kat McAllister, Janet McTeer, is one of the most widely celebrated working English actresses. In addition to earning two Academy Award nominations, a Primetime Emmy nomination, a Tony Award, and a Laurence Olivier Award, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2008.
At the end of the day though, Kat McAllister seems like the overarching big bad of the series. Even if Jaime or another major player acts as the season 2 villain in the same sense that Richie Stevenson was, the one pulling the strings will almost certainly be Kat. She has made her intentions of taking over the London game clear, so it’s only a matter of time before she and Harry play their game of wits. Unfortunately, she will likely have infinitely more resources at her disposal whether they square off in season 2 or further in the future.
We Still Don't Know Who Kat Really Is
The Season Finale Didn't Provide Any Clear Answers
Theories about Kat McAllister’s real identity have flown since she was introduced, with one of the most popular labeling her a CIA or MI6 boss, working in coordination with the greater crime lords to keep the world from spiraling out of control. That seems all but off the table now with her openly declaring her interest in the Harrigans’ operation and her willingness to wipe them out in short order to obtain it. It’s possible that she could be playing some sort of long game, but we haven’t seen that level of subterfuge at play in MobLand yet.
It seems like a sure thing that we’ll get more information about Kat McAllister’s background, and find out just how foolish it was for Harry to turn her down.
The available information points to Kat being some sort of high-up international crime boss. Her ability to sway a Mexican cartel is one of the clearest demonstrations of her level of influence, and the fact that we’ve only ever seen her alone makes it seem as though she operates completely independently of the more famous crime organizations in the world. If MobLand season 2 comes to , it seems like a sure thing that we’ll get more information about Kat McAllister’s background, and find out just how foolish it was for Harry to turn her down.
