Warning: Major spoilers ahead for episode 9 of MobLand

The penultimate episode of the first season of ending of episode 9 acted as a long-awaited breaking point, as Maeve and Conrad literally came to blows, brandishing a broken bottle and a steak knife respectively, while Maeve broke him down verbally. The dinner was interrupted, so there was no real resolution between the two.

Maeve has been a prime suspect in the hunt for the Harrigan who's working with Richie Stevenson, given her coordination with Richie to kill Seraphina, even with her oldest son's life at risk. It remains to be seen if Maeve has been Richie's rat inside the Harrigan organization when it comes to London's fentanyl operation. However, it has been revealed that in addition to encouraging Conrad to kill his old friend Archie (who was in fact not working with Richie) Maeve made the anonymous call to the police about where to find his body. The question now, is why.

Maeve Told The Police About Archie To Get At Conrad

Maeve's Entire Purpose Is The Undermine Her Husband

Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan in MobLand

Despite having been together for 60 years, Maeve and Conrad are far from a unified couple. In multiple episodes of MobLand, Conrad's sordid past with women has been brought up. In fact, before she married Kevin, Bella Harrigan was one of his girls, when she was just 20 and he was in his 50s. Maeve's hatred for Seraphina is purely due to the fact that she is a product of his infidelity, as she is the product of an affair from decades earlier. It's possible Conrad has another son floating around out there, as Maeve has mentioned Kevin's "other brother".

The final episode of MobLand will be available for streaming on Sunday, June 1st, 2025 on Paramount+.

That seems to be the motivation behind her telling the police about Archie's body. That maneuver, along with Maeve's plan to kill Seraphina via Richie, was entirely intended to undermine her husband, and push him off the edge that he is teetering on every day. Maeve called him out plainly as they squared off at the head of the Harrigan dinner table, noting that his reign is over, and that everyone knows it. Conrad is unstable and over-the-hill, and Maeve is determined to make sure he rolls all the way down that hill.

Maeve's MobLand Plans Are Total Chaos

There Doesn't Seem To Be Any True Direction

Unfortunately, Maeve doesn't seem to be the scheming, manipulative mastermind she thinks she is. Her plans do not seem to have any true direction, and on multiple occasions her decision-making has been downright baffling. She called Richie to tip him off about Seraphina's location, and simply trusted the word of a man whose wife she had just helped kill that he would not harm her son, whose location she also handed over to him in the process. It's either hopelessly naive or mind-numbingly reckless, but in Maeve's case it could be a little of both.

Maeve doesn't actually have the best interests of the Harrigan crime empire in mind. She's not working with a mind towards the future, or establishing a concrete operation so that her surviving son and grandson can thrive long after she's gone. Maeve is working towards total chaos, with only Conrad's downfall on her mind. The collateral damage that comes with that is of no concern to her.

Why Did Eddie Tell Conrad About Maeve?

Eddie Fears Conrad More Than He Loves (Or Fears) Maeve

Helen Mirren as Maeve hugging Anson Boon as Eddie Harrigan in MobLand

Episode 9 opens with Conrad confronting Eddie just as he woke up, and while the conversation was not shown, it's pretty clear that Eddie spilled everything about Maeve's machinations. Conrad likely knew before, or at least had some concrete suspicions, but Eddie confirmed everything he needed to know. Simply put, Eddie fears Conrad more than he is loyal to Maeve. Whether it's the correct assessment or not, Eddie believes Conrad to be the more dangerous of his two clearly unhinged grandparents, so Conrad knew he could get the truth out of him.
