Former Trista chose Ryan Sutter, who was then 28 years of age, and the two have been married since December 2003, when their wedding aired as a TV special. Since then, Trista has been an active part of Bachelor Nation. For example, the reality celeb has appeared in a few specials. Now, she is revealing why she believes the franchise has problems. She points to a big double standard.
When she became The Bachelorette lead, Trista had already dealt with a broken heart on the Bachelor Nation pair are still going strong. However, now, she is saying that producers are too involved with the storylines, and that the show doesn't seem authentic anymore.
When speaking with Vulture, Trista echoed the thoughts of a lot of franchise viewers, saying that the producers manipulate storylines, and complaining about the lack of genuine intimacy. She stated, "There was a lot more depth in the first few seasons, Last night I was watching a new episode with my daughter, and my husband watched the episode with us. He'll rarely watch anymore. He was mimicking what was going on in the episode. 'Now, can we make out? Oh yeah, we had such a fun day today. Can we make out?' It's all about making out." Even though she initially wanted to tell her husband to be quiet, she ultimately knew that he was right.
She also noted that on The Bachelor franchise shows, formerly hosted by Chris Harrison, the topic of sex presents a double standard. She shared that when she was first announced as the lead, the media often labeled her as a woman who was going to make out with tons of guys. The reality was that she only kissed four men during her season. Even in later seasons, the female leads have gotten death threats because of their actions. However, none of the male leads ever received any type of criticism for their behavior on the show. It seems like the female leads get the harshest criticism for their actions, but at the same time, she believes that the men should be held able for what they do on the series.
Despite having a few issues with the franchise, Trista is still an avid Bachelor franchise viewer. She hasn't stopped believing that there is some authenticity when it comes to the series, despite having to work hard to actually see it. Right now, Trista is tuning into Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia's season, trying to find men that they can envision a future with. Just like the viewers, Trista is eager to see how the remainder of the season plays out for the two co-leads.
The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8 P.M. EST on ABC.
