Hearts Of Stone was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s first expansion and offered gamers around 10 extra hours of gameplay. The expansion sees Geralt meet with Gaunter O’Dimm – first seen in the main game’s “Lilac and Gooseberries” quest – and a new character named Olgierd von Everec. Geralt strikes up a deal with O’Dimm to fulfill three seemingly impossible wishes set by Olgierd so that O’Dimm can collect his soul as part of a pact made between the pair years previously.
At the end of the expansion’s final main quest “Whatsoever a Man Soweth,” Geralt is faced with two choices – he can either save Olgierd’s soul from O’Dimm’s evil clutches or let him die, which are colloquially known in The Witcher 3 fandom as the “good” and “bad” endings respectively. Here are both of the Hearts Of Stone endings explained and how to get to them.
Good Ending: Save Olgierd
To opt for The Witcher 3: Hearts Of Stone good ending, players have to complete a side quest in “Whatsoever a Man Soweth” that involves Geralt choosing to meet with his old pal Shani. She, in turn, suggests he meet with Professor Premethine Shakeslock who gives Geralt some smart advice about defeating O’Dimm.
If players, as Geralt, choose to save Olgierd’s soul they will have to complete a timed challenge that involves solving a riddle set by O’Dimm. If the riddle is solved, O’Dimm’s curse over Olgierd is broken. However, if players fail the challenge, O’Dimm gets to keep both Olgierd and Geralt’s souls.
Bad Ending: Let Olgierd Die
By opting not to save Olgierd or failing to meet with Shani and Shakeslock, players can choose Geralt can choose from one of the following boons:
- Be as swift as the wind with the Caparison of Lament horse saddle
- Never go hungry again with the Horn of Plenty which provides an endless supply of food
- A bottomless carafe of vodka
- 5000 crowns
- Advice on finding Ciri
- Refuse O’Dimm’s rewards and receive more experience
