Yet another video game-based Kirby franchise. Wordle has become the new mobile craze since it was released last year, as players try to guess a certain word in as few attempts as possible - with a new puzzle being introduced every day. This proves to be easier said than done, and Wordle’s addictive gameplay has even caught the attention of the developers of games like Payday 2 due to certain answers bringing their games to mind.
Naturally, there have been several clones of Wordle in the wake of the original game, but many of these are decried as cheap attempts to cash in on the newest fad. However, some of these Wordle imitators are fun enough in their own rights, such as the Fortnite-themed Fortle, which tests players’ knowledge of Epic’s massively successful battle royale hit and the various updates to it over the years. There is also Moviedle, which has players identifying movies from clips, and even Antiwordle - which requires s to get the wrong answers instead of the right ones. Lastly, Heardle has players figuring out songs instead of words, including the iconic soundtracks to various fighting games like Street Fighter and Tekken.
The latest of these puzzling challenges is the Fighting Game Heardles, Kirby Heardle plays a brief snippet of music from the Kirby games and tasks players with identifying which song it belongs to. Incorrect guesses lead to longer segments being played, but the game ends after six failed attempts. After the player gets the song right, they can post their score on social media and challenge their friends to figure out the right answer quicker.
This Kirby-centric Wordle clone comes at an exciting time for Nintendo’s adorable pink puffball, as fans are getting ready to celebrate Kirby’s 30th anniversary. Nintendo has already hailed the milestone with the release of Kirby And The Forgotten Land - a brand-new platformer that even managed to beat out Elden Ring in launch day sales in Japan last month. Even the Kirby franchise’s music has seen a surge in popularity over the past few months, as an orchestral cover of Meta Knight's Revenge from Kirby Super Star recently won a Grammy for “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella.”
The Kirby franchise's music is every bit as colorful, fun, and bouncy as the series' main character, but picking out a particular tune from a brief second-long clip can be a real challenge - as Kirby Heardle proves. Diehard followers of Nintendo's cute platforming mascot and casual fans alike can now test their knowledge of Kirby music in the latest Wordle-inspired puzzle sensation.
