Wordle is a puzzle game where the player tries to guess a new five-letter word each day. The players get six guesses in total, with each guess giving hints as to what letters are correct. The game will turn a letter yellow if it is in the word, but not in the correct spot, green if the letter is in the correct spot, or gray if the letter isn't in the word at all.
With the move to the New York Times, there are a few glitches that are getting noticed by s. NYT has removed profane words from Wordle and words using foreign spellings like “FIBRE” are the main differences. However, one major change that was likely unintentional is the ability to cheat a perfect score every day.
How to Cheat Statistics in Wordle
Before the change, a Wordle player could always simply look up the word from other s that already completed the puzzle that day. However, now there is a way to beat the system while still actually playing the game. The can also pad their stats by showing several perfect scores in a single day.
A can start by opening an incognito window and playing Wordle like normal to find the word of the day. Then if the player opens several tabs on their browser and goes to the Wordle website on each tab, they can enter in the word on the first attempt on each tab and the stats will count on every attempt. For example, a could open 10 tabs in their browser and enter in the correct word and their stats will show 10 correct first-time guesses.
The key thing to is the tabs must already be open to the Wordle page BEFORE the guesses the word. Otherwise, each new tab will just take the player to their statistics page with the word already guessed. With social media sharing of impressive scores being a big part of the popularity of Wordle, it is likely several s will utilize this glitch. It is currently unknown if and how the New York Times will address this workaround.
