WWE fans who doubted that World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso could hang with the best in the ring will have a hard time justifying that opinion after the sensational match that Jey and Seth Rollins delivered in the main event of Monday Night Raw from Omaha. While it was a surprise to see Seth challenge for the title so soon, the two delivered a PLE-worthy main event, with a finish that protected both competitors.
While Jey may have come out shining and proud from this contest, the implications of this feud going on are not necessarily good for Seth. After Jey most likely dispatches Logan Paul at Backlash this Saturday, a clash with Seth's new powerful faction seems inevitable to decide who will be the ruler of Monday Night Raw. However, if WWE is fully committed to pushing Jey as their top babyface, this means that Rollins will face defeat, hurting the explosive momentum he got after WrestleMania 41.
Seth Rollins Gave Jey Uso One of His Best WWE Matches Yet
A Surprise Main Event for the Crowd in Omaha
When WWE immediately s a full match on its YouTube channel, hours after it has aired live, you know that the bout is something special. Fans should not be surprised that Seth Rollins delivered a great match, as he's considered one of the best workers ever to step foot in the company. Still, this main event was something else. Being his first defense after winning the title at WrestleMania, Jey was motivated to show that he deserves that championship, and Seth sold for him like he was supposed to.
The crowd was fully invested, which never hurts, either. The shenanigans with Paul Heyman and Bron Breakker at ringside served to sell Seth's new heel persona, and of course, everybody pops for a Bron Breakker spear. Sami Zayn got his moment to shine, too, and by the end, everyone believed that Seth was about to win the title, until CM Punk's music hit. Overall, a great, emotional bout that allowed Jey to showcase his athleticism and in-ring ability, and ended with both competitors looking strong.
The Risk WWE Takes by Slowing Down Seth Rollins' Push
Is It Too Soon to Go for the World Title?
However, the most analytical fans may have doubts regarding pairing Seth Rollins with Jey Uso so soon. Seth came out of WrestleMania 41 with incredible momentum, beating the two top stars in the company, gaining the services of the best manager and mouthpiece in the business, and allying with the hottest fresh talent in WWE. There is a lot of hype around this new faction and what they could do, but as Paul Heyman said during his promo on Raw, "Seth Rollins has to be champion." So, what happens when he loses against Jey?
Considering WWE's booking tendencies in recent years, it's unlikely that Jey will lose that title soon. Triple H likes his long-reigning World Champions, and the company clearly bet a lot on Jey to have him drop the belt in the near future. We can assume, then, that if Seth challenges Jey again after the latter gets rid of Logan Paul - and the ending of the match on Raw leaves that possibility open, as Seth technically won - it will be a losing effort. What that will do for the credibility of Seth and his faction is hard to predict, but it will surely leave a sour taste in many fans' mouths.
Why Jey Uso Still Faces Doubts as World Champion
An Uphill Battle for "Main Event" Jey
This match may have done a lot for Jey's reputation, but he still has his fair share of doubters and haters. Triple H may believe that the "internet fans" do not matter, but it's undeniable that the community is split over Jey's worthiness as a World Champion. The "Yeet-man", as his disparagers like to call him, will continue electrifying arenas and riling up comments sections for a long time. Surely, if this perception changes, it will happen by giving Jey sensational opponents such as Seth Rollins, who will make him shine in the ring and outside of it.
The oldest and truest rule in pro wrestling is that you need a great heel to make a great babyface. However, it's worth asking if Seth Rollins has to play that role now, when he is building a faction that seems poised to dominate Monday Night Raw just like The Bloodline did until not too long ago. The Bloodline and Roman Reigns created Cody Rhodes, but that was because Reigns was the champion, not the other way around. With Jey Uso and Seth Rollins, WWE is booking itself in a weird and unfortunate spot, but at least we'll get some great matches out of it.
