In Psylocke (2024) #1 – written by Alyssa Wong, with art by Vincenzo Carratù – Cyclops orders Kwannon to take a vacation and catch up on much-needed rest, and benches her for the next few missions. Kwannon goes to visit John Greycrow, her romantic partner who she bonded with over their violent pasts.

While she's there, she wakes up from a nightmare and almost stabs John with her psi-blade. Kwannon expresses that she was made for violence, but it's not who she wants to be anymore, though she fears it's all she's good for.

Ever since she knew how to walk, Kwannon, or Psylocke was trained to be a ninja assassin by a criminal organization called rhe Hand. Over time, killing became easy; so much so that it had become embedded in her brain as a reflex. She was raised with the sole purpose of becoming a weapon for The Hand. Elektra was the same way as she was manipulated by The Hand as a young child, and trained with them to become an assassin, eventually earning the title of the most dangerous woman alive.

Psylocke wanted to...put the killing and the violence of the Hand behind her, but in the evil and corrupt world, her reflex for violence bubbles to the surface once again.

It all started when Matt went to prison for the accidental death of a robber he was pursuing. Elektra took over the role of Daredevil and even adopted Matt's no-kill rule. Psylocke wanted to do the same, to put the killing and the violence of the Hand behind her, but in the evil and corrupt world, her reflex for violence bubbles to the surface once again.

Psylocke is taking jobs using anonymous tips. This takes her to a party hosted by A.I.M., where nothing seems off at first, but then they bring out the mutant kids and start to auction them off. Kwannon re how she was taken by The Hand, and she steps up, activating her violence reflex. Kwannon claims that her blade is an extension of herself, and when she holds it, muscle memory kicks in. She doesn't want to be what she used to be, but what scares her the most is that she is not horrified by her own actions.

Psylocke's conflict with violence will be a constant struggle throughout this series as she learns the balance of how much violence she can use, and what's going too far. Perhaps she'll learn, but it's also possible that she discovers it's better to give into her violence. Kwannon's origins are similar to Elektra's, but the difference is Kwannon's has no control. Elektra's control could come from Matt Murdock's example, or it could mean that she has more of a limit on her violence thank Psylocke.
