Every June, Phil Spencer gets on stage to tell us everything we're about to see will be on Game at the annual E3 kicked the bucket, that is. Xbox Games Showcase 2025 is scheduled for June 8, 2025, to be livestreamed starting at 1pm ET. It will lead straight into its companion presentation, a direct dedicated solely to The Outer Worlds 2.
E3's demise hasn't stopped June from being the month for the gaming industry's biggest s. It has largely been usurped by Summer Game Fest, which will have its big presentation on June 6. The Xbox Games Showcase is the second big presentation from the event, but there are another Nintendo Direct on the heels of the Switch 2's launch, though those usually aren't explicitly associated with SGF like the Xbox Games Showcase is. Xbox is keeping things tightly under wraps, but there are plenty of big predictions to be made.
8 The Outer Worlds 2 Release Date Announcement
A Whole Direct Is Dedicated To The Outer Worlds 2
The Outer Worlds 2 having its release date announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 is practically guaranteed, just because there's a whole direct dedicated to Obsidian Entertainment's next RPG. The Outer Worlds came out in 2019, and Obsidian has been busy since – releasing Grounded, Pentiment, and Avowed – but the sequel has been slated for this year for quite some time.
The Outer Worlds 2 promises bigger explorable areas, more variety in enemy and weapon design, and the same cheeky satire of over-corporatized space capitalism. Following the Xbox Games Showcase proper with a direct dedicated to a single game may become a new tradition; The Outer Worlds 2's honorific spot was filled by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 last year.
7 Everwild Will Finally Show Up Again
Rare Has Been Quiet Since Its Reveal
Everwild is the long-awaited project from Rare, the studio's first major undertaking since Sea of Thieves, which was released in 2018. Sea of Thieves' post-launch has likely kept many developers at Rare busy, and its PlayStation 5 port came out roughly a year ago, but Everwild has been a lingering mystery for Xbox Game Studios' slate.
Even stranger, Everwild has been in development since 2014, though the project has been overhauled numerous times. It was at one point expected to be a survival game, had drawn comparisons to god games, and has even been purported to feature no combat at all. It's safe to say Everwild is still largely a mystery, but Phil Spencer himself played an early build of it in October last year (via Xbox Era), so it's starting to feel like Rare's ambitious project could resurface.
6 New Gears Of War: E-Day Trailer Will Show Gameplay
Marcus & Dom Back In Action
This year's Xbox Games Showcase will mark the one-year anniversary of Gears of War: E-Day being announced. Gears' arrival on PlayStation was announced via Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the original game, but E-Day hasn't returned to the limelight since its first trailer. The prequel sees the return of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago to the leading roles in a story set 14 years prior to the first game.
Gears of War is synonymous with third-person cover shooters, but a gameplay reveal for E-Day will still be something to keep an eye out for. It's the next big installment in one of Xbox's flagship series, and it has expectations to push the series forward even further past the open-zoned Gears 5. Emergence Day was a cataclysmic event for the denizens of Sera, and E-Day will likely be gritty, bombastic, and, of course, exceptionally gory.
5 State Of Decay 3 Could Show Extended Gameplay
More Than Just Blasting Zombies
State of Decay 3 is another game that was announced years ago, but has yet to meaningfully resurface. Its most recent trailer was released at last year's Xbox Games Showcase, but it was largely cinematic – the gameplay clips aren't especially insightful, showing little more than zombies getting shot in the head.
Rumors put State of Decay 3's release as early as next year, so the game feels ripe for an extended look at gameplay. Last year's trailer implies co-op will be returning in a big way, and while it looks graphically impressive, fans are likely eager to see how it has iterated on State of Decay 2's gameplay systems.
4 Perfect Dark Gets A Deep Dive On Gameplay
Is It Really An Immersive Sim?
Joanna Dark's big comeback has been a long time coming, with the Perfect Dark reboot first announced in 2020. Last year's Xbox Games Showcase gave us our first look at gameplay, which seemed to hint at Perfect Dark becoming an immersive sim. If so, it may be a good replacement for those saddened at the lack of a new Deus Ex.
While last year's trailer gave a compelling hint at what to expect from Perfect Dark, this year's Xbox Games Showcase would be the perfect opportunity to give a clearer idea of how it will play and maybe where the story is going. While Perfect Dark's return is exciting in and of itself, it will be the first release from The Initiative, so even though it's being co-developed with Crystal Dynamics, there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the project that could be put to rest.
3 Clockwork Revolution Finally Releases A Second Trailer
InXile Has Been In Exile
Another game that could eliminate some uncertainty is InXile's Clockwork Revolution, the steampunk first-person RPG first announced at 2023's Xbox Games Showcase. InXile's latest, and arguably biggest, release was Wasteland 3 in 2020, a couple of years after the studio was acquired by Microsoft.
Clockwork Revolution immediately piqued a lot of interest because of its setting, a Victorian-era city called Avalon, and time-travel mechanics, but the game has gone silent since its initial reveal. It may still be too early to show off a lot of gameplay, but anything could help keep the excitement alive for Clockwork Revolution, even if it's little more than a straightforward cinematic trailer.
2 We See New Footage Of Halo In Unreal Engine 5
Did They Give You A New Coat Of Paint, Chief?
Amid rumors of new Halo will use UE5 didn't reveal a new title per se, but the move is interesting nonetheless.
Halo Infinite will turn four years old near the end of this year, so it's likely growing close to time that 343 Industries reveals what it's been cooking up. I don't expect the next Halo to be revealed necessarily, but an extended tech demo of what the studio is aiming for with the engine change could provide some great insight.
1 Something, Anything On The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Revealed
Bethesda Should Keep The Oblivion Hype Alive
I know what you're thinking, and I'm a little skeptical too, but with Oblivion Remastered's runaway success this year, Bethesda might want to strike while the iron is hot and finally share some new details on the long-elusive The Elder Scrolls 6. Prior to Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax and its subsidiaries (Bethesda included), The Elder Scrolls 6 was officially revealed at E3 2018 with nothing more than a landscape flyover and a title card.
Since then, practically nothing. A Starfield trailer teased TES 6's setting as a return to Hammerfell and High Rock, and many rumors have ed that idea, but everything else about Bethesda's next full release has been hearsay. If Skyrim's endless re-releases weren't enough to prove The Elder Scrolls' enduring popularity, Oblivion Remastered has made it clear.
No one is expecting a release date, or even any in-depth gameplay, but at this point, if we got even the tiniest amount of information on The Elder Scrolls 6 at the Xbox Games Showcase, it would be welcome after such a long period of radio silence.
