There are already a few smartphones with 200MP cameras on the market, but Xiaomi's Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition is the first phone with a 200MP camera and for 210W fast charging. Back in June, it was reported that a smartphone with for 200W fast charging may launch in 2022. It looks like that charging speed has now been sured.
Unsurprisingly, the early adopters of this fast charging technology have been Chinese manufacturers whereas more established brands such as Samsung and Google have stuck to slower charging speeds for years. The more interesting part is that the feature is not exclusive to flagships but is also available on mid-range smartphones. Buyers don't have to shell out $1,000 to get the fastest charging speeds as brands such as Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, and even OnePlus have mid-range smartphones that charge incredibly fast.
The Redmi Note 12 series is the next generation of mid-range smartphones from the Xiaomi subsidiary. The series includes the standard Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro, Redmi Note 12 Pro+, and Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition. All four phones bring new features but the most exciting of them all is the 200MP primary rear camera and for 210W fast charging. These speeds allow s to charge the phone's 4,300mAh battery from empty to full in just nine minutes.
It Has A 200MP Camera Too
The Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition sets a new fast-charging record for a commercially-available device, dethroning the iQOO 10 Pro which has 200W fast charging. Xiaomi's proprietary technology splits the charging into three channels with an output of 20V 3.5A (70W) per channel. There are also a bunch of safety features built-in such as a cable with an E-mark chip. And for those who are wary of the high wattage, the Redmi Note Discovery Edition also s Quick Charge 3+ and Power Delivery 3.0.
The rest of the specs are equally impressive for a mid-range smartphone. The 6.67-inch display is a 10-bit OLED with FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and a peak brightness of 900 nits. It has MediaTek's new Dimensity 1080 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Alongside the 200MP main camera is an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 119-degree field of view. There is also a 2MP macro camera to complete the triple camera setup, while a 16MP camera sits inside the punch-hole display for selfies and video calls.
Xiaomi's new phone has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a headphone jack, LDAC , NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6. It also has dual SIM and dual-frequency GPS. Unlike some flagship smartphones, it comes with the 210 GaN charger in the box. While it ships with MIUI 13 based on Android 12, it is expected to get the Android 13 update in the future. For now, the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition is exclusive to China where it sells for ¥2,399 (~$330). Xiaomi is expected to release the Redmi Note 12 series globally, but the phones might have different specs from the Chinese variants.
