To celebrate the end of one era for the Marvel Comics has released an instantly iconic animated tourism ad for the island of Krakoa, encouraging any and all mutants to . Over the past two years Marvel has successfully relaunched the entire X-Men franchise, helmed by X-Architect Jonathan Hickman, through the release of House of X/Powers of X, Dawn of X, and Reign of X. Now the mutant nation of Krakoa is moving into its latest phase, "Destiny of X," which will see most of the X-Titles relaunched with new team and exciting new adventures. The new tourism ads marks this momentous moment and serves as the perfect way to introduce new readers to the mutant nation.
The founding of Krakoa has been a true game-changer for the entire Marvel Universe, with the mutants' ascension to rulers of the "Sol System" happening at such a fast rate that the world's governments, leaders, and non-mutant heroes can barely keep up. The past two years saw so many iconic moments for the X-Men, including the Hellfire Gala, terraforming of Mars, and the literal abolishment of death...but the true star of the show was the development and growth of mutantdom caused by their relationship with the living island Krakoa. Not only has Krakoa created a safe haven for all mutants, but it helped to create the immensely innovative technology now used by the mutants as well as the healing medicine that the nation has bartered with the rest of the human world.
With all of the intense, complex plots that have developed throughout the X-Titles (such as X-Factor, X-Force, X-Corp, X-Men, Way of X, Marauders, Hellions, and others) it is no wonder that Marvel wants to give fans an easily accessible way of introducing them to Krakoa and the new mutant status quo. the mutants' new "Destiny of X" era.
The tourism video for Krakoa is positioned as an ment for reluctant mutants, or mutants who are just now discovering their X-Gene and abilities, who might not know all the amazing things that Krakoa has to offer. The video highlights some of the nation's major teams such as Captain Kate Pryde's Marauders, who rescue mutants who need rescuing, as well as the new X-Men team, which is where you can "find action" on the island if you are bored of hanging out at the Green Lagoon bar. The ad also reminds potential new Krakoan citizens that if they do X-Men and die fighting for the greater good, the mutants can easily resurrect them in a new cloned body, as if nothing had ever happened! It also throws mutants who break their rules in "The Hole," has an X-Force team that has literally committed genocide on an entire nation, and harbors ex-villains who have caused serious harm to the world, humanity, and other mutants. The future of mutantdom is still up in the air, as the latest shake-up caused by Inferno has turned the internal politics of the nation upside down. There have even been hints that the evil, anti-mutant organization Orchis will end up destroying the nation as a whole.
