Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for XO, Kitty season 2!

XO, Kitty has become a standout in Jenny Han's To All The Boys franchise, focusing on Kitty Song-Covey as she navigates her life at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS). Season 2 brought Peter back again, who visited Kitty as he was in Seoul for a lacrosse match, during which he made it clear he and Lara Jean were still going strong.

In a recent interview with TVLine, O'Toole opened up about the possibility of a Lara Jean cameo, following Margot Song Covey's (Janel Parrish) cameo this season, making Lara Jean's return a logical next step. O'Toole shared her enthusiasm, saying that it would be “delightful” to have Lana Condor reprise her role as the third Song Covey sister:

Having Margot come back was a wonderful thing to get to do for the end of that family story. [...] That would be a wonderful opportunity, if we can make that happen.

When discussing the possibility of seeing more of Peter and Lara Jean's relationship on XO, Kitty, O'Toole stated that any decisions about the iconic couple are carefully considered in collaboration with series creator and author Jenny Han, and as such she wouldn't want to share any information prematurely. See the rest of what O'Toole explained below:

It’s the Jenny Han extended universe. So I’m always careful to check in with her about those things. You don’t want to just throw things out there without thinking them through and talking about them.

Revisiting More Beloved Characters Is A Possibility

With the success of XO, Kitty, bringing back such beloved characters as Margot and Peter, it provided an emotional bridge between the spinoff and its predecessor. O'Toole's comments hint that the show might go deeper into the extended To All The Boys universe, as Peter's visit in season 2 has already provided extra insight into his relationship with Lara Jean, as they've been in a long-distance relationship for three and a half years. Although Peter confirmed they were not yet engaged, his cameo has given a much-wanted update and opened the doors for Lara Jean's return in future seasons.

Kitty was just a kid in To All Of The Boys I've Loved Before, and she has grown up a lot in the time between the trilogy and XO, Kitty.

If XO, Kitty continues to explore the Covey family's ties, a Lara Jean cameo could offer viewers a closer look at her evolving relationship with Peter, or provide an update on her life post-college. Lara Jean could come back as a mentor figure for Kitty, such as Peter in season 2 when he helped her while she was at a crossroads in her relationships with Yuri and Min Ho. Additionally, her return could also further the storyline of their estranged family in Seoul, providing more emotional moments and reunions that viewers would appreciate.

XO, Kitty has successfully established its own identity while honoring its connection to the To All The Boys franchise. The possibility of Lara Jean's return offers the opportunity to intertwine both sides of the extended universe, giving fans a deeper understanding of the Song Covey family dynamic and evolution.

With O'Toole's careful approach and Jenny Han's artistic direction, it is ensured that any cameos in XO, Kitty are impactful and important for the development of the series and the franchise. Although Netflix has not yet confirmed XO, Kitty season 3, the season 2 renewal came less than a month after its initial release, and since season 2 of XO, Kitty has only just dropped, audiences can hope for a renewal announcement soon.
