The creators of Yellowjackets premiered on Showtime in November 2021 and follows the main characters both during their time in the wilderness through flashbacks, as well as the surviving characters 25 years later. Even after the end of season 1, much of what happened in those missing 25 years remains a mystery.
The series is created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson who also are executive producers and showrunners along with Jonathan Lisco. In Yellowjackets season 1, several characters in the adult timeline are asked by others about how the Yellowjackets survived for so long in the wilderness, and what it was like to finally return home. Every adult character gives short and vague responses, partly because the viewer soon finds out that some of the events that take place in the woods are unspeakably traumatizing.
Lyle, Nickerson, and Lisco recently sat down with Kate Arthur, Editor-At-Large for timeline will happen in Yellowjackets season 2, after Arthur poses the question of that third timeline, Lyle states, "their lives post-rescue is something we've very much talked about exploring in the future."
A third timeline that takes place directly after the girls are able to make it out of the wilderness would allow the viewer to experience how they deal with having to transition from being ruthless survivors to being a part of everyday society. Besides this, seeing how their relationships change post-rescue would act as another reference point in order for the viewer to understand the state of their relationships in the present timeline. Seeing how Shauna's and Jeff's relationship develops after Shauna returns from the wilderness would be especially intriguing to watch. It would also answer the question on many people's minds as to whether Shauna's baby also makes it out of the wilderness.
Even though adding a third timeline may mean that there is less time for plot development in the other two already established timelines, it may also mean that a longer, multi-season story arc can play out should Yellowjackets be renewed for more episodes past season 2. Production for Yellowjackets season 2 is slated for late summer, and Showtime's president of entertainment revealed earlier this year that he is hopeful that season 2 will premiere at the end of 2022. Viewers will have to tune in then to see whether season 2 includes the third timeline with girls shortly after they're rescued.
