original Apple TV+ show that riffs on many familiar themes and narrative tropes. The show follows a man's gradual moral descent as he starts stealing from his affluent neighbors to be able to sustain his and his family's luxurious lifestyle.

In a recent episode of Your Friends and Neighbors, the main character, Andrew Cooper, has found himself in some deep trouble after becoming one of the primary suspects in a murder. While only time will tell where his story will go from here, it is hard not to notice some subtle parallels between his narrative and another character's story from a 96% Rotten Tomatoes show. These story overlaps between the two characters' stories might have foreshadowed what the future holds for Andrew Cooper.

Andrew Cooper's Your Friends & Neighbors Story Is Reminiscent Of Walter White's From Breaking Bad

Andrew Cooper Is Becoming More And More Like Walter White

In Breaking Bad, Walter White considers backing off from cooking meth after he goes into remission and even tells Jesse that he is uncertain about his future in the drug smuggling business. Although he seemingly loses his sense of purpose, he still tries to take things into his own hands by doing dishes and making repairs in his home. Only when his family takes away his sense of control again by questioning why he is obsessing over house chores does he realize that he needs to return to the criminal world to have authority and any semblance of power.

Your Friends & Neighbor's Andrew Cooper seems to find himself at a similar crossroads when he goes on a road trip with his family, and his ex-wife even gives him hope they can get back together. Things finally start looking up for the character, and he considers giving up on his stealing endeavors to be able to get his old life back. He even asks his wife if they can just turn the other away and start a new life for themselves instead of returning to the chaos that determined their recent years.

Although he has not stolen anything from his neighbors since the road trip, it seems likely that he, too, will not be able to resist the pull of reclaiming power by "breaking bad."

Unfortunately, to his dismay, the dream of having control over his life suddenly crumbles after they return from the trip. Cooper finds himself in the same superficial material world he created for himself at the cost of losing his autonomy and sense of control. Although he has not stolen anything from his neighbors since the road trip, it seems likely that he, too, will not be able to resist the pull of reclaiming power by "breaking bad."

Owing to this, it is hard not to believe that, like Walter White, Cooper will eventually return to his criminal methods to acquire power and control. This time around, his actions will not be driven by the desperation to survive. Instead, he will walk down the criminal path because he is tired of letting his circumstances and the people around him dictate his life.

Andrew Cooper's Walter White Parallels Hint At His Dark Future

Cooper Is On The Verge Of Tipping Off To The Dark Side

Despite committing many burglaries in his neighborhood, Cooper has managed to hold on to his sense of morality. Even though he is one of the key suspects in Paul's murder in Your Friends and Neighbors, he has not killed or harmed anyone. However, he might gradually start crossing moral boundaries if, like Walter White, he loses sight of why he started stealing in the first place. Once he starts committing crimes to be able to retain his sense of control over his life and not to sustain himself and his family, it will likely be too late for him to redeem himself in the Apple TV+ show.
