Million Dollar Secret's Cara Kies seemingly came from out of nowhere to nab the million dollars at the end of the series' inaugural season on Netflix. Cara was one of 12 contestants on the show (which steals plenty of elements from The Traitors) who eventually ended up as the secret millionaire, walking away with a cool $1 million when all was said and done. She wasn't a frontrunner, in fact, Cara was somewhat of a dark horse, only coming to life and displaying some epic game-playing strategy when she was named the millionaire in episode 7.
In the end, Cara outsmarted them all by being the last person holding a box that contained a million dollars. Nobody was more stunned and emotional than Cara, who broke down in tears and fell to her knees, crying about how this money was life-changing for her and her family. Cara recently stopped by Harry Jowsey's podcast, Boyfriend Material with Harry Jowsey, to talk about how her life has changed since winning.
Cara Appeared On Harry Jowsey’s Podcast
Cara: "I'm A Terrible Liar In Real Life"
On Million Dollar Secret season 1, much was made about Cara's background as a fast food worker. On the show, the players are allowed to lie about their backgrounds as strategy, but Cara didn't have anything to hide when she said she worked at In-N-Out, the famed West Coast fast food spot. She did plenty of lying later on, but as far as her background, Cara was upfront about her job.
I think that Cara's ission that she worked in fast food was part of her strategy, designed to undermine her abilities in the eyes of her opponents.
On Harry's podcast, Cara talked about many things pertaining to Million Dollar Secret, and revealed that she's "a terrible liar in real life."
Cara said she knew, in her heart, that she was going to walk away with the money.
After failing to make a name for herself early on like fellow competitors Sydnee Falkner and Sam Sepulveda did, Cara was able to fly under the radar for a long time without garnering suspicion. She'd formed bonds with many in the cast, so she was able to stay in the game longer than the others.
Cara Spilled Secrets Of Million Dollar Secret
Slingshot Challenge Went Awry
Cara opened up about the dynamics at The Stag, where Million Dollar Secret was shot. She said that initially, everyone was friendly, but by day two, people were a little more guarded.
Cara revealed that prior to appearing on the show, nobody knew what the concept of the show would be. All they knew was that lying would be required, and a million dollars was at stake.
Anything the contestants said or did could be used against them somehow, and could raise suspicion, so the entire cast started playing their cards closer to their chests as the show progressed.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
For instance, she spoke about a grueling challenge that took six hours to film and never ended up airing. Apparently, the cast all bombed the "water balloon challenge," which resulted in the majority of the challenge being cut from the show. We saw as Chris Allen and Sydnee attempted to slingshot a water balloon into an animal head, but according to Cara, Chris and Sydnee's portions were the tie-breakers of the actual challenge. The actual challenge didn't air, since everyone failed, and it began to rain, forcing production to pivot.
More tea Cara spilled: There were several lies told on the show that were so poorly executed, production cut them. Sometimes, the agendas would be so obvious, like Phil Overtree's scream challenge, but they still had to act like they were in the dark. She laughed as she recalled Sydnee's fall challenge and how everyone knew how fake it was, but they had to continue with the show as if they didn't.
Cara Relied On "Intuition" To Win
Cara Is Quiet In Real Life
Initially, Cara explained to Harry that she wasn't sure she'd even be cast on the show, since she doesn't have an outgoing, bubbly personality in real life. She said she's actually quite reserved, so she didn't think she'd be cast. But she also told production that while she might be quiet, she has a killer intuition.
Cara's quiet nature turned out to be an asset on the show. While the others were getting to know each other, and revealing more and more of themselves (information which could later be used against them), Cara kept to herself. She still made friends, but she wasn't as forthcoming as the others.
Watching the show, one can see how Cara's intuition guided her to winning. When Sam questioned her about how many siblings she has, Cara said that, in that moment, her intuition told her to lie because the sibling question could be related to a clue about who the millionaire is. Cara didn't miss a beat, telling Sam she has one sister, when she actually has two. Her intuition turned out to be spot on, because Sam had been told the millionaire had two sisters, so once Cara said she only had one, Sam immediately absolved her of any suspicion.
Cara Explained How She Quit Her In-N-Out Job After Winning A Million
Cara Said She "Took A Little Leave Of Absence"
One of the most talked-about parts of the podcast came when Harry questioned Cara about working at In-N-Out. When asked whether she still worked there, Cara said that she "just quit." She clarified that she quit a few days ago, after her participation on the show was revealed, but prior to her winning being aired.
"Yeah, but I no longer flip burgers," said Cara.
"Wait, how was that? Did they congratulate you or were they angry?," asked Harry.
"Well, they had no idea I was on the show, so when it was announced... I just flew under the radar and took a little leave of absence, and then when the show came out, they were like, 'When was this?' They were so confused, and then they were like, 'Oh, so did you win?' I was like, 'Well, if I won, I would have told you guys a year ago. I would have quit a year ago,' and they're like, 'Oh, yeah.'
Cara said that, after her leave of absence, she returned to work and kept up the ruse. Harry seemed in awe of Cara's ability to lie to her coworkers, saying, "You're so good at lying." However, Cara continued to insist that she was actually a terrible liar in real life. She said lying makes her anxious, but apparently, when there's a million dollars on the line, Cara finds it easier to fib.
Realistically, Cara is better at staying under the radar than lying. She managed to stay in the game by being unassuming and not putting herself out there as much as other participants. This ability also came in handy when she took a leave from work to do the show. She quietly left and won a million dollars, then returned like nothing had happened until she was able to reveal that she was a new millionaire.
